Free Spirit Homeopathy was founded by Clare Metcalf RSHom, MNCHM, a homeopath with 4 years homeopathic training, graduating from the Northern College of Homeopathic Medicine in 1998, (after which she was office manager there for 4 years), 7 years post-graduate training and 10 years of busy clinical experience. More recently she spent 2 years managing a large international clinic, focussing mainly on serious chronic illnesses such as cancer, cardiac illness, diabetes, arthritis etc.

In her "spare time" Clare organises and facilitates post graduate training for homeopaths in the North-East of England, and abroad - including an exciting international post-graduate materia medica course bon the Island of Corfu, Greece in May 2004. She also organises Complementary Health Fairs in the North East, bringing together therapists from a number of professions, encouraging the public to try taster sessions, presentations & demonstrations.

One of her passions is spreading the word about homeopathy far and wide - believing that the only way to make sure homeopathy becomes mainstream is to educate as many people as possible about the benefits, safety and effectiveness of this fascinating form of medicine, and she is a popular local speaker.

To this end she gives presentations, workshops and lectures to local businesses, charities, WIs and groups. In addition she teaches 6 week and 10 week accredited basic self-help classes, particulary in conjunction with two local womens health charities. For her the biggest reward comes when her students view homeopathy through her eyes, and return to the group sharing experiences and enthusing about a remedy they have tried. She wrote and delivers the homeopathy module of a degree course in complementary therapies at a University Hospital, and the graduates will be using their new skills in hospices, care homes and hospitals, a prospect she finds most exciting.

With a colleague she also runs a free (donations only) clinic on a drop - in basis for the women members of one of these charities, and hundreds of patients here can testify to homeopathy's gentle effectiveness. It was intended to be a clinic for acute ailments, but they regularly treat women suffering the effects of abuse, in its many forms, with great success. Evaluation so far has helped win significant funds to continue the classes and clinics here at no cost to the members.

Her many experiences led her to identify a need for up to the minute and easily accessible homeopathic information and resources, and the very best quality homeopathic and therapeutic goods for use by qualified homeopaths and the general public alike.
